Grappa

Grappa: authentic Italian spirit distilling and aged oak riservas

Grappa is Italy's quintessential traditional spirit, crafted exclusively through the distillation of grape pomace (marcs) left after winemaking. Elegant, aromatic and full of history, grappa captures the spirit of its originating grape variety and the mastery of Italian distillers.

In this category you will find a curated selection of fine Italian grappas: from crystal-clear young spirits to single-varietal expressions and rich barrel-aged (barricata) reserve grappas matured in oak casks. Our collection provides the perfect digestif or luxury gift option.

Grappa styles: Young, Aromatic and Barrel-Aged

Understanding grappa styles helps you choose the right bottle. Young Grappa (Bianca) is clear, dry and preserves the pure aromas of the grape pomace. Aromatic Grappa stems from fragrant grapes (Muscat, Traminer). Aged or Barrel-Aged Grappa (Invecchiata / Barricata) matures in oak barrels for over 12-18 months, developing amber tones alongside velvety notes of vanilla, cocoa and sweet spices.

Single-varietal vs Blended Grappas

Single-varietal grappas (Monovitigno) are distilled from pomace comprising at least 85% of one grape variety (such as Nebbiolo, Amarone, Moscato or Prosecco). Blended grappas combine pomace from different grape varieties to craft a balanced palate profile.

Tasting tips and serving suggestions

Grappa is best enjoyed in tulip-shaped glasses that concentrate aromas. Serve young grappas slightly chilled (10-12 °C), while oak-aged reserve grappas excel at room temperature (16-18 °C). They make ideal post-dinner digestifs, pairing wonderfully with dark chocolate and fine cigars.

What does Grappa Barricata mean?

It indicates a grappa that has been aged for a specific period in small French oak barrels (barriques), granting it an amber hue and warm vanilla aromas.
