The De Bartoli winery was founded in 1978 when the young Marco, with a degree in agronomy and a passion for racing cars, took over from his mother, Josephine, in managing the Baglio Samperi estate. For over two centuries, this estate had cultivated grapes for the production of Marsala. At the time, the denomination was in complete decline, as was the historic family estate. However, Marco De Bartoli quickly transformed his vineyards into the driving force behind a new way of producing wine in Sicily, based on quality and ancient, virtuous traditions. He gave life to Marsala, passito wines, and dry wines that have made history in Southern Italy and worldwide.

Marco De Bartoli’s name has taken on legendary status, and his production techniques—innovative yet rooted in tradition—have become a benchmark across the region. One example is the reintroduction of the Soleras Method, brought to Sicily by Benjamin Ingham in 1812 and revived by Marco in the 1970s.
