The family-run Langhe winery Piero Benevelli is one of the rising stars of the municipality of Monforte d’Alba. Although its success is relatively recent, the Benevelli family has been producing wine since 1978, the year in which Piero Benevelli founded his winery in San Giuseppe, east of Monforte. Today the estate is run by his son Massimo, who began working with his father as a child and is supported by his wife and mother.

The little more than 10 hectares owned by the Piero Benevelli estate are dedicated to the main Langhe grape varieties, namely Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera. The vines, some of which are over 50 years old, are all rooted in marly-calcareous soils. The approach in the cellar is minimally interventionist, using spontaneous fermentations in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures accompanied by prolonged macerations on the skins for the Nebbiolo for Barolo.

The resulting long aging periods take place in medium to large capacity neutral French oak barrels.
